The Center for Victims of Torture (CVT) is hiring a Psychotherapist for our Healing Hearts program. This Psychotherapist will be responsible for providing psychological screening, assessment and treatment to refugee war trauma and torture survivors in collaboration with two primary care clinics in St. Paul. The services are provided within the context of an interdisciplinary team that includes a client coordinator, therapists, case managers and medical providers.

The Center for Victims of Torture works toward a future in which torture ceases to exist and its victims have hope for a new life. We are an international nonprofit dedicated to healing survivors of torture. We offer rehabilitation services to those who have been tortured, train partners around the world who can prevent and treat torture, and advocate for human rights and an end to torture. We are headquartered in Minnesota, and we have US offices in Atlanta and DC, as well as offices in Africa and the Middle East.

Responsibilities:

  • Psychotherapy: Conduct initial interviews and make diagnosis of psychiatric disorders. Conduct individual psychotherapy sessions at a frequency determined with clients.

 

  • Documentation:  Complete clinic paperwork including session chart notes, diagnostic assessment reports, treatment plans, closing treatment summaries.  Prepare other necessary documentation for requirements of research team, clinic records and third-party reimbursement needs.

 

  • Team Collaboration:  Work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team context.  Provide input to team members regarding clients’ progress and seek input from others about related treatment needs.  Participate in clinical supervision (as needed), case consultations, case reviews and informal consultations. Conduct eligibility screenings with potential clients and meet with team to determine eligibility. Participate in program development as part of the project team.

 

  • Training and Dissemination:  Contribute to dissemination of research to refugee communities, primary care clinic staff members and other professionals working with refugees. Contribute to training through writing about refugee care in integrated care settings, speaking to community groups and students about integrated care, and providing support to the Healing Hearts internship program through consultation, training, and/or supervision.

Qualifications:

Required education, experience, certificates, licenses or registrations

  • MA, PsyD or PhD in psychology, counseling, social work or related field
  • License-eligible as an LP, LICSW, LMFT and LPCC
  • 1 - 2 years of experience providing psychological services, including treatment of survivors of trauma

Preferred education, experience, certificates, licenses or registrations

  • Licensure as an LP, LICSW, LMFT and LPCC
  • 3 - 4 years of experience providing psychological services, including treatment of survivors of trauma
  • Experience with refugees and survivors of war trauma or torture
  • Experience with or interest in health psychology and integrated behavioral health care
  • Experience delivering psychological services via an interpreter preferred

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Knowledge of relationship-based therapy models
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-culturally domestically or internationally
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, recognize appropriate boundaries and cope with emotionally stressful situations
  • Working knowledge of electronic health records and Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word and Excel)
  • Flexibility and autonomy to work in fast paced environments of primary care clinics
  • Experience, knowledge or interest in refugees, international human rights and trauma survivors
  • Proficiency to speak and write in a language in addition to English desirable: Karen, Burmese, Somali, or Hmong preferred
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent skills in organization, attention to detail and time management (including the ability to meet deadlines)
  • Ability to travel daily to multiple office locations in the metro area
